Americans are scared and they are angry. The increased incidence of violent crime has made average citizens afraid to walk the streets in front of their homes. In America, the crime clock continues to click: one murder every 24.4 minutes, one rape every 4.2 minutes, one robbery every 2.2 seconds and one burglary every 30.5 seconds. The cost of crime continues to mount a stunning $900.000 billion each year. In addition to the financial cost is the psychological cost of devastated lives and a loss of security. In recent months, even apathetic Americans have been shaken from their false sense of security as they have seen criminals invade nearly every sanctuary where they felt they were safe. Past solutions seem ineffective. Massive spending on social programs, massive spending on prisons, and sweeping changes in sentences seem to have little effect. Perhaps the best solution lies within individuals. We must take responsibility for our own personal security and the security of our loved ones by purchasing the (PPD) personal protection devices that we need and learning to use them in a safe and efficient manner. Pepper Spray

What is it? Pepper spray is a lachrymatory agent. This means that it makes the eyes tearful. Pepper spray is based on an oil known as oleoresin capsicum. Capsaicin, the inflammatory agent in the oil, is the same chemical that makes chilli peppers hot. But in pepper spray, it is present at a much higher concentration.

Physical effects
When a person comes into contact with pepper spray, their eyes will close immediately. They will experience a "bubbling" or "boiling" sensation, followed by temporary blindness and eye pain. The effects last from 30 to 45 minutes, depending on how strong the spray solution is.
Pepper spray can also burn the throat, cause wheezing, dry cough, shortness of breath, gagging, gasping and the inability to breathe or speak.
In rare cases, it can cause cyanosis, a bluish discoloration of the skin that indicates a lack of blood flow and oxygen. Apnea and respiratory arrest are possible.

Stun Guns

A lot of people use the term “Taser” and “stun gun” interchangeably, but there are significant differences between the two. One is devised to be used at a distance while the other can only be used in close quarters. Neither of these weapons are designed to kill under normal use. However, if they are used excessively, continued exposure could possibly cost the perpetrator his life. 


 It is perfectly legal for anyone to own and carry a stun gun or a Taser for self-defense in most states. Stun guns and Tasers are illegal in the following states: Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Wisconsin.
 
Stun guns emit a high voltage current that stuns the subject and produces a high degree of pain. Stun guns affect the sensory nervous system without inflicting permanent injury. It takes about 3 to 5 seconds for the electrical impulse to disable the assailant which will make it difficult for the person to function or move for several minutes. Stun guns have not been shown to have any significant effect on an individual’s heart or any other organs in the body. Stun guns work best when they are used on specific areas of the body, preferably any area where there is a high concentration of nerves that are close to the surface of the skin, such as the stomach, neck or hips.
 
Stun guns are very effective in fending off attacks and must come in direct contact with the assailant. There is no risk of danger to the victim if the assailant is touching or holding them when the stun gun is used. A high voltage stun gun would be above 800,000 volts but can be purchased with voltage readings as low as 100,000.
